Transcarent is expanding its employer-facing surgery network through a partnership with OrthoForum Value Network (OVN), a physician-led orthopedic network representing more than 160 independent groups and 12,000 clinicians across 47 states.

Announced October 13, 2026, the agreement adds a national independent-practice channel to Transcarent's Surgery Care offering. It combines orthopedic consultation and referral support with prearranged bundled surgical pricing, potentially making local orthopedic episodes easier for self-insured employers to purchase.

This is a documented provider-network-to-employer-platform arrangement. It is not a disclosed contract between OVN and a named individual employer, and the announcement does not establish that all of Transcarent's employer clients have adopted the new option.

What the partnership changes

OrthoForum Value Network brings together independent orthopedic practices with more than 2,000 locations nationwide, according to its company profile in the announcement. Transcarent brings its employer and health-plan distribution relationships, surgery-care navigation, and expert medical opinion service, 2nd.MD.

The proposed care path starts before surgery. A member can obtain an orthopedic consultation or expert opinion about diagnosis, treatment options and whether surgery is appropriate. When surgery is recommended, Transcarent coordinates benefit guidance and referrals; participating OVN physicians make clinical decisions and deliver the care.

For eligible surgical procedures, the companies say employers can know the price of the episode before treatment, with bundled pricing covering defined services. The release also describes directing appropriate cases to lower-cost settings, including ambulatory surgery centers.

The agreement creates a provider access and pricing channel; it does not itself prove a particular employer has contracted for, elected or used a specific bundled procedure.

Transcarent states that its broader platform serves more than 1,700 employers and health plans and supports 21 million members. Those are platform-wide figures, not the number of employers or members enrolled in this OVN partnership.

Similarly, OVN's network size is a measure of represented provider capacity. The announcement does not itemize which groups have completed all commercial contracting or which procedures are available at each location.

Savings claims require separation

Transcarent cites $17,943 in average savings per surgical episode, a 0.63% complication rate, and a 0.05% readmission rate for its Surgery Care program, based on Transcarent internal data from 2026.

These are company-reported results for the broader Surgery Care program, not independently verified outcomes of the newly announced OrthoForum arrangement. The release does not provide an OVN-specific episode count, risk-adjusted comparison population, claims methodology or realized savings figure.

The announcement also compares Transcarent's program-level complication and readmission statistics with published external benchmarks. Without evidence of matched populations and procedures, those comparisons should not be treated as proof that the partnership produces the stated differences.

For this reason, the DirectContract tracker records no realized OVN-specific savings.

Why it matters for employer direct contracting

The commercial opportunity is to move beyond one-off hospital contracts toward a national network of independent specialty practices that can offer locally delivered, episode-priced care to employers through an established purchasing platform.

For self-funded employers, that could create an alternative to a conventional carrier-network surgery claim: consultation, clinically appropriate site selection, bundled price certainty and coordinated recovery support.

But execution matters. The useful next evidence will be named employer elections, live bundled episode counts, actual price ranges, the number of OVN practices operationally available, and independently evaluated quality and total-cost results.

This partnership is distinct from Transcarent's October agreement to provide surgical and MSK services through Angle Health, which is a separate distribution relationship with a small-employer benefits platform.
